Rather a solemn start of a new year... as the traditional Chinese saying goes,
年年有余, "May you be blessed with fishes(left overs) each and every year." So, take a mermaid.
this is also an unfinished piece for LMS3 for CA.org. so crits and suggestions welcome~

Great!
LMS.. i must finish my entry soon D;
Feliz Año Nuevo!!
Nice Mucha-ish piece - the colors, the mood - stunning - it's totally amazing - a suggestion - maybe the branches and the male figure could be improved upon in terms of composition and perspective (although I think you've pulled off a pretty difficult shot.)
it's not my place to crit, but...
needs to have something that shows the tail of the mermaid is out of the water--change of color, shiny disco-ball reflections on the fish scales, etc. you could maybe show some watkiss-ish splashes of sunlight through the flowers and branches onto the fisherman and the mermaid tail--might help brighten up the picture a little.
i like it though. very mucha.
inspirational as always...
absolutely beautiful...
it's refreshing to see something unusual and extraordinary in such a familiar style.
(I just found your blog thru Chris Sanders' site, I'm in love!)
Nice image already! I'm sure you know all this already but....
Perspective is off- Vases don't match boat---guy doesn't match anything else... which is fine if you want to throw perspective out totally. But if you're going to make things look a little wacked like that make sure it doesn't look like a mistake. Like if you didn't want something right in the middle of your image and you move it aside just a little it will look like you tried to put it in the center but screwed up. You'd need to move it far enough to look like it's intentional. Maybe when everything is more rendered then it will look like you did it on purpose but so far it just looks a bit off. Of course if you want an unsettling effect thats good then....
The guy's crotch is too high and his left calf is lots longer then the thigh. His upper arm looks short. Her arm is too bent. Her face is great. Her perspective in the water isn't reading either. I think maybe you are doing it on purpose and I'm going to shut up about perspective!! :) Don't like that one piece of yellow seaweed in front of his right hand. Flow kinda goes top to bottom to her face then off the bottom of the image, might need an element to bring the viewer back up if want that. Cool image an I couldn't do something half as good so please don't take my blunt opinions as negative as...they sound.....
Easy to seem like a jerk when just typing and not talking in person. You rock! That's why I look at your blog. Happy New Year!!!

Hi there!
I really love your works! Can I ask what software did you used?
your work is like a breath of fresh air, Shelly!
I'm also saddened by Bhutto's sudden departure as well. While I normally don't buy news magazines, I went to the shops and bought every magazines I could find the following week with her face on it
Great colors!!
That its an awesome piece of art! the colors and the theme. That illustration reminds me a tale of oscar wild, called the fisher and his soul. YUou have show perfectly the scene when he finds the mermaid! and you know the tale or you have done more illustration of that kind?
Stunning piece. Lovely and mysterious.
love your passion and love your style
